Punjab Launches First-Phase Campaign Against Organized Begging in Lahore

The Punjab government has launched a new initiative aimed at addressing organized begging, with Lahore selected as the first city where the campaign will be implemented.

According to publicly available reports, the strategy was approved during a high-level meeting chaired by Punjab Home Secretary Dr. Ahmed Javed Qazi, bringing together representatives from several provincial departments.

Coordinated Multi-Department Strategy

Officials finalized a coordinated implementation plan involving multiple government institutions.

Departments participating in the initiative include:

  • Safe City Authority
  • Punjab Traffic Police
  • Social Welfare Department
  • Interior Department
  • Prisons Department
  • Probation Department

The collaboration is intended to improve coordination in identifying and addressing organized networks operating in public spaces.

Focus on Enforcement and Coordination

Authorities stated that enforcement efforts will target organized activities while using available technology and interdepartmental cooperation to support implementation.

Safe City surveillance systems and support from the Punjab Traffic Police are expected to assist authorities in identifying suspected organized networks.

Lahore Selected as the Pilot City

Lahore has been chosen as the first city where the initiative will be rolled out before any potential expansion to other areas of the province.

Officials say the campaign is intended to strengthen public administration and improve coordination among relevant departments.

Looking Ahead

Further implementation details are expected to emerge as the campaign progresses. Authorities have indicated that coordination between departments will remain central to achieving the initiative's objectives.
